Karen Risner Honored with BEE Award for Extraordinary Compassion and Care

July 14, 2025

Pulaski, TN — Southern Tennessee Regional Health System (STRHS) Pulaski is proud to announce Karen Risner, Ultrasound Technician, as the recipient of this quarter’s BEE (Being Exceptional Every day) Award, which recognizes team members who go above and beyond in delivering compassionate care and support.

Karen was nominated by Dr. Sara Bush for her remarkable empathy and dedication while working with a patient who had experienced a 23-week fetal demise. Dr. Bush shared that Karen not only provided expert care during the ultrasound, but also remained by the patient’s bedside, offering comfort and sharing a similar personal experience that brought much-needed support. Karen later returned to check on the patient, continuing to provide heartfelt compassion well beyond her clinical duties.

Karen’s presence made an incredible difference in that patient’s experience. Her compassion was genuine and unwavering.

Karen was also recognized for her attentiveness and professionalism in a separate case, where she identified something unusual during a fetal heart ultrasound. She spoke up about her concerns, and her observation led to a timely and necessary medical intervention—an excellent example of patient safety in action.

The BEE Award honors team members who support our nurses and clinical teams while exemplifying STRHS’s core values of integrity, compassion, and excellence. Karen’s actions are a powerful reflection of what the BEE Award represents.

Please join us in congratulating Karen Risner on this well-deserved recognition. Her commitment to our patients and to her fellow team members continues to make a lasting impact across our organization.
